Alumni profile: Nazanin Rafati

Research and Development Technologist | Tip Top

While studying at the University of Auckland, Nazanin participated in Velocity, New Zealand’s leading entrepreneurial development programme. In 2014 she was also the Challenges Lead in the programme. The Challenges team is responsible for planning and coordinating all aspects of the annual Velocity challenges, which provide mentoring as well as cash prizes to students with business ideas.

“Involvement with Velocity allowed me to further develop my leadership and public speaking skills, as well as teaching me essential entrepreneurial skills”.

After graduating, Nazanin joined Fonterra as a technical graduate. Now she is with Tip Top working in their Innovation Team as a research and development technologist, developing new ice cream flavours and products.

Nazanin finds that her entrepreneurial mindset has allowed her to view the scientific world through an entrepreneurial lens. “I can identify things that others can’t, and unlock the true potential of the project that will directly contribute to the bottom line.

“In today’s highly accessible world there is no shortage of information, but what is key is how you use this information. Learning how to think as an entrepreneur is fundamental to any job in any industry.”

Nazanin Rafati graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Technology (First Class Honours).
