Velocity $100k Mentors

Velocity is the University of Auckland’s flagship entrepreneurship development programme. The Velocity $100k Challenge is it’s infamous business planning competition. Participants develop an idea for a venture, form a team, build a business case and pitch for an opportunity to get the resources to help you bring your idea to life, including a share of a prize package valued at over $100,000!

We have a range of mentors available to assist


Mark BurgessMark Burgess

Mark has over thirty year’s experience in product commercialisation and market development through the application of advanced technologies supporting innovation in business. Key domains include agritech and biotechnology and his knowledge of materials sciences, ICT and energy enables him to see across the boundaries of technology domains and create innovative solutions where some only see problems.

Mark is available for mentor sessions at Unleash Space.

Neil ForsterNeil Forster

Neil has significant experience in leading IT revitalisation and digital transformation. Specialties include change, innovation, digital transformation, architecture leadership, disruptive technology, prototyping, design thinking and agile based delivery, new opportunities and idea development

Dil KhosaDil Khosa

Dil is on a mission to grow New Zealand’s emerging start-up ecosystem. She founded the Athena X Project, which aims to build & coordinate authentic, safe and inclusive start-up communities such as the Women Tech Founders NZ group. She has worked in various roles from investment to hands-on operational leadership roles at many tech start-ups such as Parrot Analytics, Narrative Muse.

She is also StartupGenome’s Ambassador for NZ, a Programme Manager & Business Coach with Catalysr (Australia, NZ), an accelerator for migrant and ex refugee entrepreneurs, and an advisor for women-led startups and NGOs. She was one of EY’s 2015 cohort of Entrepreneurial Winning Women. She is a creative thinker, operator, analytical problem solver, people leader and entrepreneur with a mission to support and invest in startups built by diverse founders who tackle some of the world’s pressing problems.

Anne WalshAnne Walsh

Anne is an experienced director with demonstrated success in global business, change and team development in the consumer goods industry. Her areas of expertise are  business strategy, leadership and change implementation, strategic marketing, insight-led innovation, customer development, sustainability, supply chain, governance. Anne has been a volunteer for the CIE for many years, and has guided many teams through the $100k Challenge.
