Business School students are invited to gain hands-on experience in a start-up through the Start-up Volunteers programme. Lend your skills to a start-up and learn new skills that will help you accelerate your future.
About Start-up volunteers
Start-up Volunteers (formerly VentureLab Volunteers) is a bespoke programme designed to give Business School students experience with a start-up. Participating start-ups offering volunteer opportunities consist of VentureLab incubator companies (winners of the Velocity $100k Challenge) as well as Velocity alumni start-ups.
As a Start-up Volunteer, you will:
- Gain insight into the skills and mindset needed to bring global visions to life
- Play to your strengths and interests – you will be match made with a company based on whether there is a match between their needs and yours
- Develop valuable skills, networks and experience to help with your future career
- Be part of a small team, enjoying the camaraderie of working together to make amazing things happen!
Your participation in this programme will also be recognised by the University of Auckland’s co-curricular recognition programme and can earn you points towards achieving a University of Auckland Distinguished Graduate Award, recognised on your official academic transcript.
Start-up Volunteers is open for application to all current undergraduate and postgraduate Business School students. Places are limited.
The Programme Coordinator will assess forms filled in by applications and the needs of participating Start-ups and will make a match between the skills and needs of both parties. Students selected to take part in Start-up Volunteers will be given a briefing session and then will be connected with the Start-up they have been assigned to be inducted into their volunteer experience. Assignments will offer meaningful experience for both parties. On completion of the volunteer programme, you will be eligible to apply for credits towards a University of Auckland Distinguished Graduate Award.
Timing and commitment
Volunteer opportunities will take place between April and July with timing to be agreed upon between the volunteer and the participating start-up. You can generally expect to be working for up to 8 hours per week.
