Darius Osing is a first-year languages and engineering student with a passion for design and innovation. He studied design and visual communication at high school, and decided to use the Maker Space to further develop his creativity by undertaking a design project.

Darius’ story

Inspired by the designs of world-renowned German industrial designer Konstantin Grcic, Darius set out to design and print his own miniature furniture set. He followed Dieter Rams’ design principles, with the ruling philosophy of a minimalist yet captivating design. His goal was to design three standard household furniture items: a stool, table, and a chair. The final design of a bar stool managed to integrate the table with the stool, which would allow for the design to be used in a commercial setting, such as restaurants, bars and cafes.

Darius wanted to create pieces of furniture that would be comfortable, yet not so comfortable that people would want to stay in them for extended periods of time. Darius’ design allows for people to easily leave their seats and interact with others as a way to counter the ‘sitting syndrome’.

Unleash Space gave Darius a quiet space to sketch his designs in a creative environment with like-minded innovators. Using 3D printers and with the assistance of the creative technologists in the space, the project was brought to life in an efficient and timely manner.
